The Robustness of NGS Analysis Pipelines for Virus Detection in Biologics

In this webinar, Izabela Fabianska, Scientist in Development Analytics at IDT Biologika, and Christoph Bredack, Business Account Manager at Genedata, jointly presented at the PDA Virus Conference 2024 the application of next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows for virus detection. They discussed how these workflows offer higher sensitivity and broader detection capabilities compared to traditional in vitro assays. Izabela provided insights into the case study parameters required for characterizing spiked viruses across different matrices. She further elaborated on the GMP-validated workflow employed for adventitious virus testing at IDT and how the data generated from this process was used to validate the workflow itself. This data was subsequently shared with the Genedata team for a comprehensive evaluation. Utilizing the Genedata Selector pipeline, the team was able to confirm the robustness of the results obtained from the NGS workflow for virus detection. Christoph further explained the specifics of the role of Genedata Selector in the adventitious agent detection process. He covered the entire workflow, from sample registration to data analysis and reporting, ensuring compliance with the latest ICH Q5A(R2) guidelines.
