Freiburg Initiative for Systems Biology Performs Transcriptomics with Genedata Expressionist

Genomic Profiling Software, used in Physcomitrella patens Transcriptomics, will be featured at Next Generation Sequencing Congress

London, UK

Genedata, a leading provider of advanced software solutions for drug discovery and life science research, today announced that the Freiburg Initiative for Systems Biology (FRISYS) is using the Genedata Expressionist Refiner Genome module to analyze and unify transcriptomics of the Physcomitrella patens (P. patens) genome. P. patens genome profiling is vital to moss gene research, which can advance crop improvements and the safe production of biopharmaceuticals. Leading this research is the University of Freiburg’s FRISYS, one of four systems biology centers funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Genedata Expressionist for genomic profiling will be demonstrated at the Next Generation Sequencing Congress (Radisson Edwardian Heathrow; Nov. 15–16).

“One of Genedata Expressionist’s advantages is that it enables researchers to quickly and easily compare expression data from various technology platforms in a unified system,” noted Dr. Stefan Rensing, FRISYS lecturer in bioinformatics and systems biology at the University of Freiburg. Built on the Genedata Expressionist proven workflow architecture, Genedata Expressionist Refiner Genome module provides a unified system for integration, processing, analysis, visualization, and management of terabytes of data in a genomic context. Its workflow system combined with an interactive genome browser creates a communications platform for scientists and statisticians alike.

Genedata Expressionist workflows, as used by FRISYS, can be built and shared within an enterprise to standardize research methodologies and increase productivity. “Genedata Expressionist simplifies and automates analyses traditionally handled by a bioinformatician,” continued Rensing, “therefore, it enables biologists to conduct analyses on their own, independent of bioinformaticians, and quickly gain the information they need from next-generation sequencing data.”

“FRISYS’s adoption of Genedata Expressionist advances a long-standing scientific collaboration between Genedata and the University of Freiburg,” said Dr. Othmar Pfannes. “This collaboration not only helps to drive our development of advanced software solutions, more importantly, it spearheads research that improves agribiotechnology and helps bring life-saving pharmaceuticals to market.”
