Genedata Receives Topics Award from Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology and Agrochemistry

Genedata Selector™ solutions for strain development chosen from more than 2,500 nominations

Basel, Switzerland, March 31, 2011

Genedata, a leading provider of advanced software solutions for life science research, announced today that Genedata Selector has been awarded the prestigious Topics Award 2011 by the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology and Agrochemistry (JSBBA, President, Prof. Sakayu Shimizu). Developed for applications in strain development and fermentation optimization, Genedata Selector was presented with the Topics Award based on Genedata Selector’s social impact and scientific significance. 23 of the 29 awards went to university and public research groups. Genedata was the only non-Japanese company among the 6 industries honored. The other industry recipients were Kirin, Kikkoman, Taiyo Chemical, Amano Enzyme, and Unitika.

Industrial biotechnology is a rapidly growing industry worldwide with specific applications for biofuels, nutrition, and healthcare. Genedata Selector is a comprehensive data management and analysis system supporting the optimization of biological production methods that replace energy- and resource-consumptive processes. Integrated tools process, store, and analyze biotechnology production-strain genotype and phenotype data and enable the efficient support of both directed and undirected strain development. Addressing the emerging needs of next-generation sequencing-based strain development programs, Genedata Selector easily analyzes and manages very large, complex data sets from whole production strain genealogies. Genedata Selector supports specific industrial biotechnology R&D processes to optimize production of feed and food additives, fine chemicals, biofuels, personal care products, pharmaceutical, and agrochemical products.

“Genedata is very much honored that Genedata Selector solution was selected – out of many innovative research efforts – to receive the 2011 Topics Award from the JSBBA,” said Dr. Othmar Pfannes, CEO of Genedata. “Our participation in the JSBBA underscores our strong commitment to our customers in Japan and to extending our presence in the Japanese market. Genedata’s customers already include most of the worldwide leading Japanese pharmaceuticals and we are now looking to support the leaders in the industrial biotechnology arena. More importantly, the JSBBA Topics Award acknowledges the significance of innovative bio-based products and sustainable production processes, another growing market area for which Genedata offers tailored data management and analysis solutions.”
