Rapid Contamination Identification with Nanopore Sequencing

In this webinar, Andrew Hillhouse, Principal Scientist at Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, presents a compelling case study on using Oxford Nanopore sequencing for rapid identification of bioreactor contamination. Andrew shares how his team achieved species-level identification in under 24 hours, compared to the typical 7–11 day turnaround for outsourced testing, by leveraging Genedata Selector’s automated Playbooks for base calling and microbial classification. Andrew’s talk highlights how Selector’s speed, accuracy, and built-in data analysis capabilities enabled confident identification of Micrococcus luteus, matching outsourced results while keeping data in-house. Andrew also discusses the broader value of Selector in supporting scalable, compliant workflows for adventitious agent detection in regulated environments.

This talk was given as part of our regular Open Forum events on NGS-based QC for advancing drug development and manufacturing.

Who should watch?

Biopharma and biotech professionals focused on biosafety, contamination control, and QC testing who are exploring faster, more scalable alternatives to traditional outsourced methods.
