Genedata Bioprocess

Architecture & Integration Capabilities

Genedata Bioprocess® is an enterprise web-application built on an industry standard, 3-Tier client-server architecture. The system has been designed and optimized for processing, storing, and querying large and complex data volumes, specifically for the handling of large numbers of samples and analytics data. As an open system, it enables seamless interfacing and integration with all relevant laboratory instruments, such as bioreactors, purification equipment, and analytics devices.

Scalable Database

Built on a relational Oracle® database (RDBMS), the system stores all samples and candidate molecules together with relevant assay and analytics data. Its data model follows the natural entity relationships defined by biology and the relevant process entities defined by bioprocess development workflows. The underlying relational database is optimized for scalability and can deal with millions of samples, molecules, and their respective analytics and assay data.

Intuitive User Interface

The Genedata Bioprocess Platform can be easily accessed by any client computer connected to the company’s intranet in a standard web browser. It provides an easy-to-use interface for data registration, analyzing, querying, and reporting. It provides interactive tools for in-depth exploration of complex data sets (e.g., large sets of samples derived from a series of unit operations). Bulk upload capabilities enable the import and processing of large data quantities, e.g., for sample or assay/analytics data upload, with specialized wizards to support users in registering, interpreting, and reporting data.

Flexible Configuration Layer

The platform comes with a significant built-in business logic layer and works out-of-the-box in its default configuration. The system can be further configured to support customer-specific variants of the bioprocess development workflow, e.g., for the handling of proprietary analytics workflows, sample nomenclature, or integration with customer-specific lab automation set-ups.

Open Platform

Public APIs enable straightforward integration with existing corporate IT systems, such as LIMSs, ELNs, MES/LES or project management systems. The platform comes with a comprehensive set of APIs (RESTful web services) that allow for the creation, update, and deletion of entities (e.g., samples, assay or analytics results, molecules) with full access to the same business logic that is also available through the web interface. The system also supports alternative integration mechanisms, such as the passing of selections from the web interface to an external system using URL parameters or, similarly, the passing of attribute values to automatically prefill forms within the web interface from an external system.

Instrument Integrations

The Genedata Bioprocess Platform comes with dedicated interfaces for integrating with relevant laboratory instruments, such as assay and analytics equipment, bioreactors, purification instruments, colony pickers, and other robotics and laboratory automation equipment. Supported Analytical Technologies include Mass spectrometry (MS), Chromatography (SEC, HIC, IEX, RP, AC; HPLC, UPLC), (Capillary) electrophoresis (SDS, IEF), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Surface plasmon resonance (SPR), Biolayer interferometry techniques (BLI), Reverse transcription PCR, and ELISA plate reader systems, among others. This direct integration enables the automated import of raw, instrument-generated data and eliminates laborious and error-prone manual data handling. The platform also supports two-way integration producing specific instrument-readable control files for operating lab instruments.
