Genedata AG, a leader in developing innovative computational solutions for comparative and functional genomics, today announced the release of the latest version of Genedata Phylosopher. It comes to the market as the first fully integrated system for large-scale genome comparisons, providing capabilities for the comprehensive and combined analysis of genome sequence, expression, functional and phenotypic data. Phylosopher, built for scalability, enables the simultaneous analysis of hundreds of genomes. The inclusion of the human genome, relevant plant and animal model organism genomes, as well as microbial genomes from pathogens and biotechnological production workhorses, makes Phylosopher a platform for a broad spectrum of life science applications from pharma and agro to biotech.
Phylosopher is equipped with a selection of analysis tools and offers a fast and flexible system for the organization of biological data and customized integration of proprietary databases. Genedata Phylosopher 4.0 contains professionally annotated genome data enhanced by integrated experimental phenotype, metabolic and regulatory pathway information. Organization of the data in a relational database ensures sustained consistency and easy maintainability of the quality-checked content.
"The challenge of genomic discovery has shifted from the generation of sequence data to the understanding of the gene products and the functions they perform in living organisms," states Genedata's CEO Othmar Pfannes. "Phylosopher provides the tools to generate knowledge from genomic data and support our customers' genome-scale research."
Genedata Phylosopher 4.0 is based on a platform-independent, fully scalable client-server architecture and is tightly integrated with an underlying relational Oracle database. It includes a comprehensive set of database administration and maintenance tools, as well as modules for saving and sharing analysis results of department- and company-wide interest. Further components include functions for project management, user-tracking, and data version management. The Phylosopher system provides specialized modules for searching, indexing and parsing as services within a distributed computing environment. The modular structure of Phylosopher allows operations on multiprocessor systems, providing the scalability needed for the hundreds of genomes to come within the next years. Phylosopher is compatible with virtually all commonly used genomics data formats and fully customizable to fit in with a company's individual IT infrastructure.
