Affymetrix, Inc., (Nasdaq: AFFX) and Genedata AG, a privately-held Swiss bioinformatics company, today announced that they have entered into a non-exclusive, co-marketing agreement for the Genedata Expressionist software. The Genedata Expressionist software enables enterprise-wide management and analysis of gene expression data from GeneChip products, spotted arrays and other expression technologies. This UNIX- and Java-based software can be integrated into existing pharmaceutical and biotechnology data management architectures.
Under the agreement, Affymetrix will promote and recommend Expressionist software for use with Affymetrix products and software solutions. Affymetrix and Genedata will collaborate to ensure a high degree of interoperability for their products.
"We believe that promoting the Expressionist product complements our existing software portfolio by providing customers with a highly scalable solution for analyzing and sharing massive amounts of gene expression data throughout their organizations," said David Craford, Senior Director of Business Development at Affymetrix. "Our agreement with Genedata enables our customers to have fully-integrated enterprise-scale software as part of a complete system solution."
"The combined Genedata and Affymetrix systems will enable our customers to work with a fully integrated and comprehensive bioinformatics platform extending from the primary experiment to the final analysis," said Dr. Othmar Pfannes, CEO of Genedata. "Affymetrix is a leading force in the area of chip technology, and we believe this partnership will allow us to penetrate new markets for the whole range of Genedata's functional genomics software products."
