The bioinformatics company Genedata AG (Basel, Switzerland) and the Pharmaceuticals Group of Altana AG - Byk Gulden (Constance, Germany) - enter into a multi-year alliance. Its aim is to establish new molecular approaches to drug research on the basis of computer-assisted analysis of functional genomics data.
Under the alliance, Genedata will provide access to its integrated bioinformatics platform and will assist Byk Gulden in the analysis of functional genomics data. "We are proud of this comprehensive collaboration with an innovative pharmaceutical company. We consider this agreement a model for other collaborations" said Othmar Pfannes, Ph.D., Genedata's CEO.
The collaboration with Genedata provides a major boost to the expansion of Byk Gulden's innovative biotechnological research: "The Pharmaceuticals Group Byk Gulden now has world class software tools. We can now manage the large volumes of data and information involved in functional genome analysis and use them to develop new drugs. This is another important step in our commitment to biotechnology," said Dr. Hans-Joachim Lohrisch, member of Altana AG's Managing Board and CEO and President of Byk Gulden in Constance.
Genedata's bioinformatics platform consists of the software Phylosopher, a system for the identification of gene and protein function based on genome sequences, Expressionist for the analysis of gene expression data, Impressionist for the large-scale analysis of protein and metabolic data, and WorkBench for the analysis of gene sequences, together with databases that are tailored to the needs of Byk Gulden. The software analyzes large volumes of genomic, biological and medical data to derive relevant knowledge for the development of drugs and diagnostics.
