The Position
We are looking for a Bioinformatics Application Specialist for our research information management system, Genedata Phylosopher®. As a member of our professional services team, you will be working closely with customers on a wide diversity of projects and tasks: from custom software development to data integration, software installation, training and support. In addition, you will be involved in pre-sales activities such as the preparation and delivery of technical presentations to potential customers, and technical and scientific support for business development. The position is based at our headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
Your Profile
You are comfortable working in a Unix/Linux environment, and have a solid experience solving real-world problems using Perl or an equivalent scripting language. You are familiar with relational database concepts and SQL. Knowledge of the Oracle RDBMS and PL/SQL, or experience with OOP and Java is a plus. You have a working knowledge of popular bioinformatics tools including Emboss, ClustalW and Blast, as well as established genomics information resources such as RefSeq and Ensembl. You have a good background knowledge in Molecular Biology and Genomics, including a basic understanding of concepts like gene expression and regulation.
We require excellent communication and presentation skills, and fluency in written and spoken English (German is a plus). Team spirit, initiative and flexibility are essential.
