About the Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Web Engineer who helps us to shape and develop our successful enterprise platform Genedata Selector®. You will work in a strong, agile, international team located in the Basel headquarters with the focus on delivering software that makes a difference. Scientists across the globe work with our highly innovative platform to develop new, groundbreaking treatments for the most severe diseases. As a member of a professional and dedicated development team, you will enable these scientists to fulfill their mission. 

Genedata Selector® is an analysis workflow and genetic data platform delivering feature rich and appreciated visualizations in its web application. This requires solid software architecture and continuous evolution. Best software development practices such as test-driven development or clean code are for us not only buzzwords but key factors for our long-term success. As Senior Web Engineer for the web user interface, you manage a large JavaScript codebase together with a sub-team and continuously improve and develop the application. With your experience and background knowledge you will take an active role in our agile organization for shaping robust enterprise software that meets the technological requirements of modern biology and bioinformatics using the most modern software technologies.

Your Responsibilities

As a member of an agile development team, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of the web-based user interface tier. As a JavaScript professional you will architect and coordinate implementation activities as a team lead, help design and review of the implemented functionalities and contribute significantly yourself maintaining and growing the codebase. Together with other group leads and product managers you will help shaping requirements and assess future developments paths actively. You will support the whole development team with your contribution in the Scrum based software development lifecycle. As a Senior Web Engineer you are reporting to the development head. 

Skills & Experience

• Master’s degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or engineering combined with development leadership experience. Background or experience in biology or bioinformatics is a plus.
• JavaScript proficiency with track record in large projects and applications, experience with React, our foundational framework, and related library ecosystem
• Architecture experience in planning, designing UI and implementation of web applications
• GraphQL and REST service interface usage, experience with application server implementation and Java is a plus
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills
• Solid management/leadership experience 
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English, German is a plus
